Experience IT was a very early advocate of Linux and Open Source - a commitment which remains today. We like the quality of leading open source solutions and have no difficulty in recommending, supporting or adapting for customer needs. We are very open (no pun intended) regarding the value of the better open source products and are not encumbered with the not-invented-here syndrome. We are happy to use and leverage Open Source products where this makes sense for our customers. It was Sir Isaac Newton who said “If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants” and we in Experience IT are happy to save time, money and effort for clients who are open to such an approach.
Experience IT built or adapted a variety of open source products for customers including osCommerce (O2 Ireland online store, BPI online ordering); Postnuke CMS (Griffith College Dublin, student extranet and public website/poral); Joomla CMS (touchtech); Mantis (bug tracking/service call mangement - Meteor)
The common denominator above is the use of a set of technologies commonly referred to as LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP). These days, Experience IT is in transition - we are committed to moving all of our web development work to Ruby on Rails - which we believe to be the most efficient software development platform currently available.
Open to Customers too..
We have always delivered all the source code for systems which we developed to our customers. Every time. Not under pressure or duress or subject to escrow. Because we believe that we don’t deserve the right to ‘lock-in’ a customer unless we deliver the value and the service. The day that we fail to deliver is the day the customer should be free to look elsewhere for the services.
In general, when we do projects for customers, we provide the source code and configuration settings under a non-exclusive in perpetuity open source license. This does not necessarily permit the customer to on-sell our work but it does give them total control over THEIR systems in the event that we were to fail or to be unable to meet their expectations.
